The year began with a visit to the
Insh Marsh and Abernethy
area of Scotland for the BENHS field
trip in early May. Highlights include Kentish Glory, Light-Knot Grass,
Glaucous Shears, Red Sword Grass and the target species, the Netted Mountain
Moth.
In June we again attended a BENHS field trip, this time at Red Farm Flash in Lincs in and effort to locate the Marsh Moth. This was unsuccessful but a number of interesting records included White Colon, Star Wort and a superb Striped Hawk Moth.
In August we attend a weekend meeting at Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, This was a beginners meeting aimed at introducing the public to moths. The event was very successful with highlights being The Tissue, Silky Wainscot, Bordered Beauty and an Old Lady. This was a very successful event and will be repeated during 2003.
Closer to home, highlights from Cheshire include a number of Light Knot Grass and Glaucous Shears caught in the Pym Chair area of the County. Both this species are rare in VC58 while the garden produced an Oblique Carpet and a Bordered Beauty.
