Compact 20w Skinner Trap
With the huge success of the Compact Heath Trap introduced in 2017 we have now launched the Compact Skinner Trap which is outselling all other moth traps due to their price, catch rate and portability.
Similar to the Compact Heath Trap but has the added advantage of clear polycarbonate upper panels so the moths can be easily viewed, pin-pointed and accessed.
- Manufactured in lightweight and durable polypropylene and polycarbonate.
- Easy to assemble. Fully flat packs.
- Excellent catch rates similar to twin 30w actinic.
- Dimensions: 35cmx35cmx32 cm box height.
- Total height with rain guard 48cm.
- Weight (with electrics) 3kg.
- UK Step-up Voltage Converter 110V – 220V. A small plug-in converter allowing UK power mains devices 240Vac units to be powered from a 110Vac main outlet is available for this Trap (see UV20 on the Moth Traps-electrics page). Useful for our North American customers or UK customers travelling to North America.

We purchased two of these traps for our growing band of volunteer moth recorders to use. Light, very portable, easy to put together and to take apart, and suitably sturdy, they fit the bill for us exactly. We tested one out on the day it arrived (10th January 2018) and were pleased to have three species of moths to the trap: Hebrew Character, Mottled Umber & Winter Moth. The Hebrew Character was the earliest record that we have had for this species. A great little trap offering very good value for money.
Jo Poland
Volunteer Coordinator for Cornwall Branch of Butterfly Conservation
What a superb little trap! Easy and quick to assemble, easy and light to carry, pulls in the moths and retains them as well as any other Skinner trap. As with other Skinner traps it is great to see what's in it and you can inspect the catch as many times as you like during the night, most nights it has done better for numbers than the twin 60W actinic. So, in my opinion, it is not only the perfect starter's trap but it is also a more than useful addition to the experienced trapper's armoury! Paul Kitchener, Suffolk
I thought you might be interested to know I deployed the Compact Skinner trap on Monday 16th April for the first time. While I had some assistance with ID’s I was bowled over with initial results. Very happy indeed. I can foresee many early mornings to come. Anthony MacDonald, East Yorkshire.
Tried my new little Skinner Trap out last night, excellent! Held it's own against more powerful neighbouring traps, catch included Lime and Elephant Hawk, good variety and quantity, well pleased!
Bob Gooding, Essex.
Moth trap arrived, set it up last night, and this morning, it was amazing, its like a whole different world, what is flying around at night, I estimate 100-150 moths.
Jim Farrow, Suffolk

I'm really pleased with the little Heath trap! On its first evening, it pretty much out-performed the 2 x 30 watt Robinson! Perry Hampson, Norfolk.
New trap worked a treat. Caught large numbers of Common Swift, max. 38 in one night. It really is ideal for taking on a holiday. The actinic light is also less intrusive compared to the MV. So 10/10!!
Ian Dearing
Love it's portability, it's small but robust and the fact it almost flat packs will encourage me to take it on my travels The new trap has produced my first ever Brindled white spot. So that was a great start, and the Pebble Hook-Tip and Shoulder striped Wainscot for the year. Your other (Robinson)traps produced my first ever Small Elephant Hawkmoth, Alder Moth and Poplar Kitten along with Elephant, Lime and Poplar Hawk Moth.
Andy Taylor, Kent
Now we have tried the moth trap in Sweden! The trap was really easy to use, and its working fine.
Karin Lindström, Biotopia, Sweden
I've been using the Compact Heath Trap every night since it arrived. I must say I am very impressed with it. Well built, sturdy, and packs flat very well - and so light. But most impressive is the bulb. Most nights not quite up to the quantities and diversity in the MV, but always a good range in there, and this morning it was clearly better than the MV.
Phil Sterling,
Co-author of Micro Moths of Britain.

The Lepidopterist – Compact Double 20w Skinner Trap in special white reflective PP
With the success of the Compact Skinner Trap (UV10) we have designed a Compact Skinner Trap in a special white polypropylene (PP) with double 20w bulbs.
The added advantage of the white PP is that it reflects the UVA given out by the actinic bulbs rather than absorbing, this in turn increases the catch.
In addition to this the two 20w actinic bulbs will catch more than a single bulb. All in all, an excellent catch rate.
- Manufactured in lightweight and durable white polypropylene.
- Easy to assemble. Fully flat packs.
- Excellent catch rates.
- Dimensions: 35cmx35cmx32 cm box height.
- Total height with rain guard 48cm.
- Weight (with electrics) 4kg.

Trap on tonight. Been getting some great hauls with The Lepidopterist, up to 60 species some nights. It's very good at retaining moths especially micros.
- Gary Hibberd, Warden of Home Dunes NNR, Norfolk Wildlife Trust
This year I purchased the white reflective double Skinner trap (The Lepidopterist).
I have been more than pleased with the results. The catch rate compares very favourably with a 125w M.V.trap and on some occasions out performs.
Moth retention is very good, easily portable and the white polypropylene and double 20W bulbs are a definite plus.
Most nights I have experienced a catch of fifty to over a hundred moths.
Overall a very good trap that I would highly recommend. - Mike Prentice, Suffolk
Out of all the moth traps we used at Finca La Molina, Andalucia, Spain last week The Lepidopterist 2X20watt (UV12) was the most successful moth trap, outperforming the two 125w and the 2X2w LED. We changed the locations for the 2X20watt with one of the 125w and the catch was still best from the 2X20watt. The carry bag was great as I could get two of these compact traps plus bulbs and egg trays inside it. - Graham Ekins, Essex

NOTE: As from Mid-April 2015 all Mercury Vapour (MV) bulbs will start to be phased out as part of the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) which effects the manufacturer of (not the re-sale of) This ban is designed to phase out less efficient lamps such as MV, it does not affect Actinic Light. At the time of writing (January 2017) ALS still have some stock left and hope to conserve these by restricting customers to ONE bulb per trap purchase.
Professional Robinson Trap
Our Professional Robinson Moth Trap is a top of the range trap made from polypropylene. The units will stack inside one another for maximum portability. They have a better holding capacity than the Skinner Moth Trap. Supplied complete with 125w MV electrics and rain guard. 60cm diameter (at widest point), 2mm thick clear collar for extra durability with internal drainage holes and gauze covering.
As used by Nick Baker on BBC2 Springwatch Guide to Butterflies and Moths Live July 2013 We also offer a special edition white Robinson Trap for that celebratory occasion such as birthdays, retirement or even a unique wedding gift (some recorders believe all white traps have a better catch potential). The deep based Robinson Trap is good for high catches in areas with high moth densities, available as a complete trap or just the base to swap with existing trap.

WOW what
a trap over the years I had three Robinsons. This trap is better ,
much better. Real quality, more Robust, better bulb protection.
Really great trap. As you can probably tell well chuffed. Barry
Hunt, Kent.
"The best ever commercial Robinson Trap I have ever seen"
Colin Pratt, Sussex county moth recorder.
I've recently been using your Robinson 125W trap, quite the
best trap I have ever used in 40 years since I started light
trapping with a butane lantern and sheet in Hatfield Forest. Andrew
Magnay, Staffordshire.
A further testament to the design of your Robinson
Trap......the night of 22nd June we had 23mm of rain driven by a
wind that woke me on a number of occasions, because of, and only
because of National Moth Night I had the trap on. I fully expected
it to cost me a bulb which it didn't, further to that the egg boxes
inside were all bone dry. Well done, Nick Candlish, Ayr.

Twin 30W (60w) Actinic Robinson Moth Trap
Using the same base and thick 2mm collar as the Professional Robinson Trap this model runs two 30w (60w) 18" long actinic tubes giving very good catch results almost comparable with 125w MV traps in certain locations. Fast becoming our top selling Robinson Trap. Advantages of this trap over other moth traps are the retention rate, once moth get in the trap, they find it hard to escape (like a lobster pot).

It’s not what I expected, impressive would be an understatement ! Rob Julier, Lincolnshire.
The build quality of the trap is very high indeed. Jim Morgan, Yorkshire.
The build and design are something that has had a lot of thought,
very well made indeed. The catch rate is almost as high as my 125w
Robinson, I'm very impressed and happy. Sheila Taylor, Yorkshire

Clear UV Glasses
We recommend the use of UV protected sunglasses if working with the moth trap at night. These will protect
the eyes from UV and from the glare of the bright bulb – obviously they must be removed when leaving the area for obvious reasons.
If an alternative is required, try our clear UV glasses which are shatterproof and are UV400 filtered for maximum protection.
